Pickens County TEA Party Is Up and Moving

Gilmer Tea Party member discusses organizing, educating and activating with new group

1/29/2010 -

The January Pickens County TEA Party meeting had 70+ concerned citizens attending to hear Jack Smith from the Gilmer County TEA Party speak on organizing, educating and activating concerned citizens on how to take back our country from the growing threat of expanding government and variance away from the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.

"The awareness must begin with each of us. We must be an AMERICAN, not a hyphenated American", Jack challenged. "We are all native American if we are born in the United States and it is necessary that we understand our Constitution and Bill of Rights."

Holding our elected officials responsible for their actions and making sure they know what the voters elected them to do is key. The TEA Party movement does not support any political party or candidate; the TEA Party supports the conservative American values of our founding fathers. They believed and wrote into the Constitution and Bill of Rights faith in GOD and governing "for the people, by the people". We are proud to pledge allegiance to our flag, talk positively about America, learn from each other, and let local, state and federal officials know that we will be quiet no longer.

Mr. Smith stated the fact that most of the citizens now involved in the TEA Party movement have never done anything like this before. The sleeping lion was awakened when our government continued to expand and disregard the wishes of the people. We have the obligation to pass on the true facts about our American heritage and get involved on the local, state and federal level. As Mr. Smith said, "If not us-WHO? If not now-WHEN?"

The Pickens County TEA Party meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Cornerstone Church, 145 Cornerstone Drive, Jasper. Join us on February 23 at the next meeting and see how you can help take back America one step at a time.
